The Go-Giver Marriage with John David Mann and Anna Gabriel Mann
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
The finest couple of the year, John David Mann and Ana Gabriel Mann share their precious time with Doug to talk about their newest book, The Go-Giver Marriage: A Little Story About the Five Secrets to Lasting Love. This long-awaited sequel shows readers how to unlock a deeply satisfying, abundant relationship based on simple, everyday acts of generosity.
In this episode, John and Ana share the five secrets to lasting love and explain how each of these is rooted in our needs as a child and still need now. These five secrets are easy to understand and implement and work no matter what phase of the marriage you are in.
Key Takeaways:
- People want to think a marriage can be 5050. But a 5050 marriage is really a recipe for failure. There's just so much research and evidence that says that people who are giving and constantly giving live longer. Their heart is healthier, they sleep better, they have generally better health. So why wouldn't you want to give to the very person that you're marrying? (4:23)
- You don't have to do the work as a couple. One wants to work actively to improve the marriage to change lives, and the other one is not so sure. With our work with the five secrets, one person can start putting these secrets in your practice. And it can shift the dynamic in such a way that the whole family comes along. (9:35)
- My favorite secret is the very first secret. And it's a secret that's really easy to put into place, it's the secret to appreciate. And when we talk about appreciate, it isn't a passing compliment. A moment of appreciation is taking the time to stop them in their tracks and actually speak authentically to what it is that you love about them. (10:48)
John David Mann is co-author of more than thirty books, including four New York Times bestsellers and five national bestsellers; his classic 2008 parable The Go-Giver (coauthored with Bob Burg) earned the 2017 Living Now Book Award's "Evergreen Medal" given for its "contribution to positive global change."
Ana Gabriel Mann, MA, earned her degree in clinical psychology before going on to serve as a celebrated educator, therapist, corporate trainer, speaker, and coach. She currently coaches Go-Giver Marriage clients and leads the Go-Giver Marriage Coaches Training Program, training coaches from around the globe.

Gorillas Can Dance with Dr. Shameen Prashantham
Wednesday Feb 23, 2022
Wednesday Feb 23, 2022
In today's episode our guest, Dr. Shameen Prashantham, will talk about large corporates and startups, their differences, and also what makes it difficult for them to work together. We will also talk about the history lessons learned through Microsoft's BizSpark.
Dr. Prashantham is a Professor of International Business & Strategy, and Associate Dean (MBA), at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS) in Shanghai, China. In his new business book, Gorillas Can Dance explains one very successful strategy that has worked for leading corporations such as Microsoft and Unilever: partnering with start-ups. His book addresses the key issues facing corporations wishing to develop this initiative based on years of research and interviews with leading practitioners in this field.
Key Takeaways:
- There will be still big companies that are very defensive and very difficult to penetrate. But in my research, I found a number of companies that have over time, developed more humility than they had in the past. And I think these are the ones to perhaps be talking to first. There's a potential Win-win in the sense that they have the scale and the startups have the agility. (8:25)
- I think the reason why big companies have been talking to startups is the recognition that they need to up their game in terms of digitalization. The startups have something to offer going forward. And another driver I'm seeing now is sustainability. (20:25)
- It is conceivable that a startup that's worked with a partner program could get on the radar of the big company and be a candidate for investment. (25:03)

The Present Dad with George Jones
Wednesday Feb 16, 2022
Wednesday Feb 16, 2022
Our guest today, George Jones, is on a mission to help young men become better fathers. Based on his belief that The best present you give your children is to be present, George has created a full curriculum of digital and experiential courses to make a dent in the Universe. He is also writing a book on fatherhood titled, "The Present Dad".
George Jones is a retired NFL Player and Devoted Husband and Father. Jones had a stellar college career at San Diego State, where he broke many of Marshall Faulk's rushing records. George made his NFL debut during the 1997 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, serving as a halfback for most of the season. The following season, he was released by the Steelers and moved on to the Jacksonville Jaguars before finishing his career with the expansion Cleveland Browns in 1999.
Key takeaways:
- GJ was born on January 23, 2007. I can remember him grabbing my finger and I whispered in his ear, "I will always be here for you, GJ. No matter what it takes, through good and bad, I will always be here for you." That day, when my oldest son who bears my name was born, that's the day I became a man. (13:12)
- Scoring a touchdown in the NFL, rushing 400 yards, and being drafted, knowing a bunch of famous people, that's cool. That is all fine and good. But the greatest gift that the good Lord has ever given me is to be a father. The talent to play football is secondary to this. So for me, I love football, and I enjoyed it, but it can never match being a father. (16:15)
- I can remember it like it was yesterday. The two nurses were whispering under their breath about Max. So I asked the nurse, and they said, "We don't want to alarm you but we think your son has Down syndrome". So I googled Down Syndrome and I almost passed out. I knew right then and there, my life as a father has changed forever. (19:07)
- The first three years of Max's life, I probably cried 10 times a day. I had to pick myself up and say, "You know what, George, you got to stop feeling bad for yourself. You are his father, you got to do right by him". From that point on, I had to do right by him, and I had to fight for him. Now, 13 years later, I couldn't imagine life without Max, because Max has given me something that I don't think I would have had he not been born, which is empathy. They always say the good Lord doesn't give you anything you can't handle. So me being a former professional football player, I wasn't going to quit. I was going to stand up and fight and do right by Max. (21:48)

How To Get Book Deals with Randy Peyser
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
Randy Peyser edits and ghostwrites books and gets authors' book deals with New York literary agents and publishers. Her clients have been featured on Hallmark TV and Daily Mail TV, in Oprah Magazine and Time Magazine, on the Wall Street Journal and USA Today Bestseller Lists, in airport bookstores and FedEx/Office and Office Max stores, and more. She is the author of Crappy to Happy as featured in the movie, "Eat Pray Love"; The Power of Miracle Thinking; and The Write-a-Book Program.
Key takeaways:
- There are two parts to getting a book deal. One part is about your content, your differentiation, the writing itself - what are you bringing, that's new to the conversation. The other part has to do with your numbers. And this is the business side of publishing. (2:03)
- Publishers are looking for outcome-driven titles and outcome-driven content. Books that'll take the reader from point A to point B, with all the steps in between. So by the time the reader finishes reading the book, they can actually apply something to do something differently. (14:28)
- Publishers do not care about an author's brand at all, it does not matter to them. We love our brands, we're attached to our identity and our brands, publishers don't care about that. The only thing they care about is selling books. (17:28)

How to Createyourself with Dr Gordon Jones II
Friday Feb 04, 2022
Friday Feb 04, 2022
Dr Gordon Jones, Co-founder and CEO of Validide and Author of International Best Seller "How to Createyourself" graces our show again today to talk about his book and what inspired him to write it.
Dr. Jones is a man of many hats. He is a healthcare executive, business developer, investor, mentor, author, coach, curator, educator, son, hugger, father, brother, athlete, coach - he's done everything very much like Michelangelo. A graduate of the Citadel, he did two tours with the second airborne. He's got his master's and doctorate to health administration from the Medical University of South Carolina and has spent 30 years in digital health, innovation, entrepreneurship, business development.
Key Takeaways:
- If we don't know why we're here, then we can't create a purpose, we can't define what our purpose is. And then we can't define our journey to create yourself because we don't know where it is we want to go. (6: 23)
- So one of the big things that we do as we're developing ourselves, is, we don't know what it is we're doing, but we verbalize that with our friends. Or we might do an activity and we're subconsciously looking at how our friends respond to that. And all of this starts to help develop who we are and what our identity is. So if we take that just whole idea of how we learn and develop our identity as a kid, and adulthood, we understand the mental behaviors that we regenerate off of different cues that we get from our environment. One of the things that we have to do is make sure that we have an environment that has been conducive to pursuing that of which we want to create. (8:20)
- So I've let my mind generate the idea of a goal. And when you're doing that, you just have to make sure you do it well enough that it makes you proud. And that becomes a part of your creative self journey. (10:00)

Outgrowing CAPITALISM with Marco Dondi
Friday Dec 10, 2021
Friday Dec 10, 2021
Since his humble beginnings on the outskirts of Milan, Marco Dondi has established his career and expertise as a strategy consultant with over a decade of experience in advising CEOs and government officials on economics, economic development, banking, education, adult training, and people development.
In his book, Outgrowing Capitalism, Marco Dondi sheds light on the fact that most people do not have the economic security to focus on purpose and life fulfillment. Instead of generating value and increasing well-being in society, free-market money creation through private banks has led to the inflation of house prices, financial crises, increasing inequality, and mountains of private debt.
Dondi believes that the assumptions and circumstances that made capitalism a success are no longer true today. In Outgrowing Capitalism, he provides a pragmatic roadmap to institutionalize monetarism and solve societal issues that only seem as permanent as time.
Key takeaways:
- I think capitalism was born in a place where it was an agrarian society where every bit of capital increased productivity and gave the ability to not be subjected to the rains and the gods sending the rains, but to the ability to reliably get food. I think today, we are way, way beyond that point. And so that's the point of our growing right, I think we have outgrown the world in which we lived when capitalism was the best alternative and the best option. (2:43)
- So I will say that's the starting point for me is like, you create an infrastructure where every citizen has a bank account at the Central Bank, just for emergency. (12:30)
- Whatever the price, look, it's basic, I need to get it like it's so I think you need to add a bit more thinking and structuring and setting the guardrails. Otherwise, the markets and the private sector will just take advantage. (28:34)
Marco holds an MBA (INSEAD, 2012) and a Master's in management, economics, and industrial engineering (Politecnico di Milano, 2009). His book, Outgrowing Capitalism, is available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Marco-Dondi/e/B09GL23M21
